| The Republic of Slovenia is the official name of Slovenia. It is located in the Central Europe, eastern Alps bordering the Adriatic Sea, between Austria and Croatia. In terms of size, Slovenia has a total area of 20,273 sq km which is slightly smaller than New Jersey. It has 20,151 sq km land area and 122 sq km water area. The population of it is approximately 2,007,711. The population density of it is 99.6/sq km. It has a population growth rate of 0.088%. 57.8% of Slovenia's people belong to Catholic religion. The Official language of those people is Slovenian (91.1%). The Slovene lands were part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the latter's dissolution at the end of World War I. In 1918, the Slovenes joined the Serbs and Croats in forming a new multinational state, which was named Yugoslavia in 1929. After World War II, Slovenia became a republic of the renewed Yugoslavia, which though Communist, distanced itself from Moscow's rule. Dissatisfied with the exercise of power by the majority Serbs, the Slovenes succeeded in establishing their independence in 1991 after a short 10-day war. In term of economy, Slovenia, which on 1 January 2007 became the first 2004 European Union entrant to adopt the euro, is a model of economic success and stability for the region.
