| Finland, officially the Republic of Finland, is a Nordic country situated in the Scandinavian region of northern Europe. It has borders with Sweden to the west, Russia to the east, and Norway to the north, while Estonia lies to its south across the Gulf of Finland. The capital city is Helsinki. In terms of size, Finland has a total area of 338,145 sq km which is slightly smaller than Montana. It has 304,473 sq km land area and 33,672 sq km water area. Finland was a province and then a grand duchy under Sweden from the 12th to the 19th centuries, and an autonomous grand duchy of Russia after 1809. It won its complete independence in 1917. During World War II, it was able to successfully defend its freedom and resist invasions by the Soviet Union. The population of Finland is approximately 5,244,749. The population density of it is 16/sq km. It has a population growth rate of 0.112%. Most of Finland's people belong to Lutheran Church of Finland religion. Official and most common language of those people are Finnish, Swedish. It has 94% of Finn and rest are Swede, Russian, Estonian, Roma (Gypsy) and Sami people. Finland has a highly industrialized; largely free-market economy with per capita output roughly that of the UK, France, Germany, and Italy. Its key economic sector is manufacturing – principally the wood, metals, engineering, telecommunications, and electronics industries.
