Brunei Darussalam, officially the State of Brunei, Abode of Peace, is a country located on the north coast of the island of Borneo, in Southeast Asia. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea it is completely surrounded by the state of Sarawak, Malaysia, and in fact it is separated into two parts by Limbang, which is part of Sarawak. In terms of size, Brunei has a total area of 5,770 sq km which is slightly smaller than Delaware. It has 5,270 sq km land area and 500 sq km water area. The Sultanate of Brunei's influence peaked between the 15th and 17th centuries when its control extended over coastal areas of northwest Borneo and the southern Philippines. Brunei subsequently entered a period of decline brought on by internal strife over royal succession, colonial expansion of European powers, and piracy. The population of Brunei is approximately 381,371. The population density of it is 66/sq km. It has of population growth rate 1.785%. Most of Brunei's people belong to Muslim religion. Official and most common language of those people are Malay and Bruneian. It has 67% of Malay people and rest are Chinese and indigenous people. In terms of economy, Brunei has a small well-to-do economy that encompasses a mixture of foreign and domestic entrepreneurship, government regulation, welfare measures, and village tradition. Crude oil and natural gas production account for just over half of GDP and more than 90% of exports. Brunei's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2007 estimate is approximately $10.199 billion with GDP of $24,826 per capita.
